Come to the Races at Pompadour Racecourse - August - September 2009

The second half of the Pompadour Racing season includes some of the most popular events.

It started on Sunday 1 August with a day of nostalgia, with activities to bring back many old time memories for both racing enthusiasts and the public at large.

This is followed by one of the really big days at Pompadour ' The Day of the Horse' on Saturday 15 August.. All the various equestrian activities in Pompadour combine to make this an exceptional day. It starts quite early in the morning with show jumping in the rings alongside the lovely chateau of Pompadour. Then in mid morning Mass is celebrated in the racecourse conducted by Abbé Bertrand d'Eloy. Shortly afterwards there is a parade of the stallions of the Pompadour Stud prior to lunch. In the afternoon there is a full race card including the Grand Cross which is a qualifying race for the french National Championships. In the evening there is more show jumping with the prestigious Prix de la Ville de Pompadour.. It as a full day with a funfair and other attractions, and should you wish to participate in all the activities there is a Passport for 8€.

Following on quickly is Elegance Day at the races, on Sunday 23 August. It is not quite Ascot style but there are many who arrive in their very best attire bedecked with great hats, looking almost as elegant as those in the royal boxes at Ascot. Various competitions are held and it is a fabulous day out. Those arriving with extra special millinery can even enter the race course for free.

A regular race day takes place on Sunday 30 August to be followed by further meetings on Sunday 6 September and Sunday 13 September. The latter at Pompadour is traditionally a day with several races reserved for amateur riders, or for lady jockeys.

Not to be forgotten is the Grand Week of the Horse which takes place from

7 - 13 September. This is a week of Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country with up to 600 horses participating. Visitors are free and there is also a shopping village installed in the grounds of the chateau.
