Domaine de Banizette, La Nouaille, Creuse

Description:

Situated in France, in the Creuse department, the Domaine de Banizette is a Private Historical Monument. It has won the Artus Prize for Ancient French Houses as well as the EDF-Limousin Trophy.

A living memory of the past, it is a rural complex dating from the 15th and 17th centuries. It is unique in the Limousin area, and represents a typical large old farm and the rural activity of centuries past.  In the depths of a protected natural setting, with land, a river and a wood, it has preserved its old buildings as well as its outhouses that can be discovered throughout a guided tour.  The farm is still functionning with its animals, its mill and its mill pond. The rooms evoke their past functions thanks to a very grand collection of traditional rural tools, the pathway through the trees.

There are a series of historical buildings, many of which can be visited.  In each building are grouped various collections of traditional tools.  As the living memory of French Rural Life, the Domaine de Banizette highlights these objects, all of which were used on site, reminding us of the activities and the crafts of centuries past, at the time when people were self-sufficient and lived in the Limousine mountains.

Every-day objects, domestic objects, and the tools with which people worked the land can be found. Many of them have remained unchanged throughout the centuries: Traditional tools for wood crafts : pit sawyers, carpenters, joiners, clog-makers (a plane, an adorner, and an auger ), or those for the blacksmith or the carpenter as well as all the women's tools such as the spinning wheel and the disaff.....

 

INDIVIDUAL VISITS
During the season :
- Every day from 1st July to 31 August.
Guided tours only, at the following fixed times : 3h : 4h15 : 5h30.

 

Out of season :
- In May : on Sundays and Bank holidays. (One visit only at 3 pm)
- In June & In September : on Saturdays and Sundays. (One visit only at 3 pm)
