Lac de Vassivière -  1000 hectares

 

The Vassivière Lake is situated in Creuse and Haute Vienne inside the Millevaches Regional Natural Park.  The Lac de Vassivière is one of the largest lakes in France, it covers over a thousand hectares and has 45km/30miles of shoreline. 

 

It has 4 fully-equipped harbours and 300kms of marked trails, for walking, mountain-biking and horses-riding.

 

Isle of Vassivière

The Isle of Vassivière is an island at the centre of the lake with an area of 0.75 km². It is dominated by a chateau and features a small menagerie and landscape sculpture park. The island is connected to the shore by a causeway. Only authorised vehicles are allowed, so it is normally accessed by road train or on foot.  The island is also the site of the lake's main lighthouse, designed by Aldo Rossi.
