Ségur-le-Château is a small village located in the south-west of Corrèze, close to the border with Aquitaine (Dordogne).  The D6 goes through the village from north to south, linking it with St-Yrieix-la-Perche in the north, and Arnac-Pompadour in the south east.  Rail services can be accessed at nearby Lubersac, for services between Brive-la-Gaillard and Limoges.  The nearest airport is Limoges-Bellegarde, offering a number of year-round services to UK destinations.

Climate

Characterised by warm summers and moderate winters, average summer temperatures reach between 21C to 24C (12C to 15C low).  In winter this drops to 7C to 8C (2C to 3C low).  The wettest month is October with an average of 7.26cm of precipitation, whilst the driest is March with 4.74cm.  Ségur le Chateau is part of a zone which receives between 1750 and 2000 hours of sunshine per year.

Tourism

Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France (les plus beaux Villages de France), Ségur-le-Château is situated on the Auvézère River, in the shadow of the ruins of the 12c castle.  The village was an important seat of the Viscounts of Limoges during the middle-ages, and there are many 15c-16c noble houses remaining as testament to an opulent period.  The village welcomes many tourists during the summer, with a programme of events and markets.  The village hosts a series of jazz concerts during July, an event that has been an annual feature since 1999.

Ségur le Chateau is part of the Brive economic zone, which has an unemployment rate of 6.4%, compared against the regional rate of 7.2% and the national rate of 9.1% (INSEE 2006).

Facilities

Ségur le Chateau has several restaurants, cafes and a post office, for other facilities you will need to travel to Lubersac (10km) or Arnac Pompadour (12km). The closest open air swimming pool is also in Arnac Pompadour , and this pool opens during July and August.  For year-round swimming there is a large Aqua Centre in Brive (45km).

For nursery/primary school and secondary school (College) Lubersac is closest, and for college (lycee) the nearest one is in Excideuil (28km).
