Description:
Situated in the north of Creuse to the east of Dun-le-Palestel is the Pays de Trois Lacs (country of three lakes). The lakes were formed by the building of three hydroelectric barrages on the Creuse River, at Le Champsanglard, Les Chèzelles and L'Age. The three facilities were built between 1981 and 1984, and they produce some 45,000,000kwh of electricity per year, enough to power a town of 10,000 people.
The three lakes cover an area of 100 hectares and are popular for fishing, with species such as pike, carp, perch and bream all present. In all there are some 25,000 metres of riverbanks from which to enjoy the sport, whether you are an amateur or expert angler.
The man-made beaches at Anzême and Bourg d'Hem are popular for sunbathing, and there are leisure facilities available such as rowing boats, pedalos, tennis, mini-golf, basketball, beach volleyball, mountain biking, horse-riding, canoeing/kayaking and football.
The area spreads across the communes of Le Bourg d'Hem, Anzême, La Celle Dunoise, Champsanglard and Jouillat, as well as the communes that make up the communauté de communes des 2 vallées (Bonnat, Chambon St Croix, Chéniers, Lourdoueix Saint Pierre and Malval).
