Guide2Limousin is almost a year old, and to celebrate we thought we’d share with you which of our place guides have been the most popular so far, starting with towns: 

1. Limoges - Somewhat inevitably the regional capital tops the league, not just because of its importance and stature as the administrative centre of Limousin, but also because it has so much to offer, from transport links to architecture and interesting attractions for visitors. 

2. Saint-Junien - Close to the border with Charente, Saint Junien has a thriving town centre, and is a pleasant place to take a stroll in the sunshine.  Artists love to paint down by the River Glane, and there is a fine collegiate church to visit.

3. Brive-la-Gaillard - The largest town in Corrèze, situated close to the border with Dordogne, in the drier and warmer corner of the region.  This is a market town with plenty of fine architecture, and a Top 14 rugby team.

4. Guéret - The administrative capital of Creuse is situated towards the foothills of the Massif Central, and is an ideal base for walkers.  The Lac de Courtille offers water sports, whilst nearby is an animal park where you can see wolves in a semi-natural environment.  

5. Bellac - Deep in rural Haute Vienne, Bellac was built on farming and leather trades, and was the birthplace of playwright Jean Giraudoux.  Close to the Monts de Blond and situated on the lovely Vincou River, there is a strong British expat population around this area.
