There were numerous accidents across Limousin this morning, as black ice and snow caught out motorists.
A man was killed in an accident in Limoges, and a female British motorist was killed near to Magnac-Laval after a head-on collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the RD61.
The A20 autoroute was blocked southbound at Saint-Amand-Magnazeix after an accident involving three lorries, with seven injured people being taken to hospital in Limoges. There were long delays on the A20 at both Bessines-sur-Gartempe (87) and Vierzon (18) due to a spate of accidents.
A school bus was involved in an accident on its way to Bellac, although all ten of the school children on board escaped without injury. Traffic came to a standstill on the RN147 at Bussiere-Poitevine, after the road was blocked due to an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle.
There are further weather warnings in place for Friday, and the weather is expected to stay cold until at least the early part of next week.
