Snow and ice catches out motorists across Limousin

28 January 2010

Description:

There were numerous accidents across Limousin this morning, as black ice and snow caught out motorists.

A man was killed in an accident in Limoges, and a female British motorist was killed near to Magnac-Laval after a head-on collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the RD61.

The A20 autoroute was blocked southbound at Saint-Amand-Magnazeix after an accident involving three lorries, with seven injured people being taken to hospital in Limoges.  There were long delays on the A20 at both Bessines-sur-Gartempe (87) and Vierzon (18) due to a spate of accidents.

A school bus was involved in an accident on its way to Bellac, although all ten of the school children on board escaped without injury.  Traffic came to a standstill on the RN147 at Bussiere-Poitevine, after the road was blocked due to an accident involving a heavy goods vehicle.

There are further weather warnings in place for Friday, and the weather is expected to stay cold until at least the early part of next week.

You can check the latest weather warning information at Meteo France.
