Description:
The Paris-Nice cycle race will pass through the region this week, with Limoges set as the finishing point for the 201km slog from Contres (Loir-et-Cher, Centre), and Saint Junien set as the starting point for the 208km leg to Aurillac (Auvergne).
This will be the first cycling event of the season to visit Limousin, with the ever popular Tour du Limousin not starting until 17 August. The Paris-Nice takes competitors on a 1288km epic journey from the capital to the sunshine of Nice, although with un-seasonal weather currently being endured in the south of France, riders may need some winter clothing.
Ten racing teams are taking part in the event, with riders due to arrive in Limoges tomorrow night (9 March) at around 16h20. The route takes riders through places such as Le Dorat, Dreux, Rancon, Nieul, Roussac, Le Buis, Thouron, St Jouvent and Nieul on its way to Limoges.
The race gets underway from Saint Junien at 11h25 on Wednesday (10 March) weaving its way south and east towards Aurillac. You can see the detailed route for the St Junien stage by clicking here.
