Description:
Since the turn of the year, Bellac has been designated a village étape, the eighth place in Limousin to attract the status, which guarantees travellers a set of services and standards.
Bellac (Haute Vienne) joins Donzenac and Uzerche (Correze), Magnac Bourg, Pierre Buffiere and Bessines sur Gartempe (Haute Vienne) and La Souterraine and Gouzon (Creuse) on the list of ideal stop-off points for voyagers.
Each village étape is a town of less than 5,000 inhabitants located on either a free motorway, or dual carriageway, and has to satisfy certain criteria to qualify for the status. The places must offer facilities such as restaurants, hotels, shops, cash machines, parking areas and picnic areas. Each town will have a tourist office offering information things such as on heritage sites and walking routes to accommodate people on short stop-overs.
For more information on the village étape standards, and information on where you can find accredited towns, check out the official website (in English).
