Description:
Extra speed cameras will be installed all over France over the coming months, and La Montagne has pinpointed the location of five new fixed radars planned for Corrèze.
Roads around Brive-la-Gaillard will be particularly affected, with the A20 autoroute coming under extra scrutiny. You can see the location of existing and planned cameras by clicking on the thumbnail image.
In addition to more cameras on the roads of France, from August existing speed cameras will be harder to spot. The well-known white sign has, up until now, been placed 400m before the camera, warning motorists of the speed limit and that a speed camera is there. Instead, motorists will be given a warning as they enter a zone of 2km where one or more camera is sited.
Some 800 new speed cameras are expected to be installed in France up until 2012, with many of them measuring average speed along known accident hotspots. Since the introduction of speed cameras in France, the number of road deaths has been steadily falling, with 4,262 recorded in 2009.
