Description:
As the national strike takes hold in France tomorrow (7 September), seven separate demonstrations are planned in Limousin.
Protestors will gather at 10am in Limoges (République), Brive (Thiers) and Guéret (prefecture), at 14h30 in Saint Junien (Bourse du travail), at 15h in Tulle (station) and Ussel (République), and at 17h in Saint Yrieix (place de la Nation).
Teachers in high schools and colleges were on strike today, at the start of what promises to be a week of disruption across the country. The key demonstrations will come tomorrow, with unions mobilising their members against proposed pension reforms. The government wants to raise the pension age from 60 to 62 by 2018, in a move to try and tackle the country’s spiralling deficit.
Unions are pressing ahead with industrial action on a national level, despite the fact that polls suggest that around 53% of the French public are in favour of the reforms, or at least find them ‘acceptable.’
Air and rail services are expected to be disrupted by the strikes, and passengers should check with their airline before travelling. In Limousin, the following information was given in today’s Le Populaire:
Téoz : 25 % of services are guaranteed, with 3 return trips.
TGV Brive - Lille : No services.
Trains and buses TER Limousin : 58 % of services will be guaranteed.
