According to local daily newspaper Le Populaire, a 54 year old Briton was arrested on Friday morning, after cannabis plants were found growing in a corn field in Haute Vienne.
Police raided the land in St-Léger-Magnazeix (Haute Vienne) after a tip-off that cannabis was being grown there. Some 170 plants were discovered, some of which measured over 2.5 metres tall. Gendarmes from Bellac and police investigators from Limoges identified the owner of the field as a 54 year old male, who is said to be a prominent member of the British community in Le Dorat.
He was released from custody on Saturday afternoon, and will be summoned to court on 14 February.
