Description:
As the Poppy Appeal gets well underway in the UK, so has the Royal British Legion here in south west France who have recruited volunteers around Aquitaine to help fund-raise. Volunteers have provided shops, cafés, bars, and even stood outside airports doing their part to support Remembrance Day and the Poppy Appeal.
If you haven’t been able to get hold of a Poppy for this year’s appeal, it is still possible to support the cause by making donations to the Royal British Legion or contacting their local representative here in Aquitaine. To find your nearest Poppy seller, contact either Gordon Merrett on 05 53 83 82 35 or email gordon.merrett@wanadoo.fr or John Allsop 05.56.61.40.64 email john.allsop@nordnet.fr
Should you send a cheque, please make payable to the Royal British Legion.
Although France holds a national holiday on the 11th of November in commemoration of the Armistice, the Royal British Legion and the Chaplaincy of Aquitaine hold their ceremonies on Sunday, as the UK does.
A special Remembrance Memorial Service will be held at the Allied Forces Cemetery in Talence, near Bordeaux on Sunday 13th November. This service will involve the Anglican Church, representatives of the Allied Forces, consular representatives, and the Royal British Legion with the Revd Bramwell Bearcroft officiating. Other services will be held in the Dordogne and throughout the region, notably in Monteton, Limeuil, Chancelade and Bertirc Burée. Most of these services begin around 10:15am.
