Description:
The long-awaited new airport at Brive-Souillac in Corréze is on course to open for business in 2010, according to local newspaper La Montagne.
Situated on a 200ha plot close to the A20 Autoroute, the new facility is near to Nespouls to the south of Brive. The 2,100m long and 45m wide runway has already been built, and is capable of welcoming Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
Construction of the new control tower will start towards the back end of April, and work is expected to complete by the end of the year, when technical equipment and beacons will be installed at the site. Also in April, construction companies will be asked to bid for the contracts to build the terminal building and hangars, and once the contracts are awarded work should start soon after. In parallel to this, work will also start on building the roads infrastructure that will give access to the site.
The cost of the project will run to 48.7m euros, and the hope is that the airport will be ready to open in June 2010, in time to benefit from the start of the tourist season.
